Treatments offered at Power Dog
- The Underwater Treadmill is used for strengthening, conditioning, healing injuries of the limbs, healing problems in the hind quarters, and gait training. It really builds a dog's endurance!
- Manual Therapy can free up tight muscles and joints, gives the dog more mobility, decreases pain, and can help to heal the spine as well. We will do myofascial therapy and trigger point therapy as well as joint mobilizations.
- Therapeutic Exercise is specifically designed to your dog's particular needs. It may be done with cones, poles, balls, ramps, steps, theraband, toys, etc. We will give you exercises to do at home that will help your dog.
- Low-Level Laser Therapy is an innovative and painless treatment in which light energy in the form of a beam of photons stimulates the healing mechanisms of inflammatory cells. It is used for wounds, joints, tendons, ligaments, muscles and bone. Low-Level Laser Therapy decreases pain and inflammation, hastens healing, increases range of motion, helps bone to heal faster, and helps to return your dog to function.
- Therapeutic Ultrasound is a painless treatment which sends gentle sound waves into the tissues, helping to increase circulation, decrease scar tissue and muscle spasms, decrease pain, and to allow more movement in the tissue. It is a lower level of sound wave than the ultrasound that is used as a diagnostic tool by doctors, which makes it a valuable healing tool.
- Craniosacral Therapy is a very gentle therapy, yet a very effective one. By working with the central nervous system using a very light touch on the dog's body, it helps to release restrictions in nerves, the spine, and the dog's energy system is re-aligned. This allows your dog's healing mechanisms to kick in. It is amazing to watch dogs respond to this therapy!
- Neuromuscular Re-education works with your dog's balance and proprioception, as well as retrains muscles to respond more readily to the stimulation of movement.
- Massage and Trigger Point Therapy are ways of working with specific muscles that are tight, spasmed, or weak to assist in returning them to optimum function. These techniques are also used as a general relaxation treatment.
- Gait Training can be an important part of a dog's healing process. We will work to normalize your dog's gait pattern using a combination of hands-on techniques and movement.
- Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy is also a way to relax your dog and stimulate healing in joints, tissues, intervertebral discs, nerves, and muscles. Your dog will lie on a bed with a gentle pulsing magnetic field. Dogs come back and run to the bed!
- Electric Stimulation uses a gentle electric current to decrease pain, stimulate healing and regenerate flaccid muscles. The type of current used determines what effect it will have.
We will use a combination of the above therapies as they are appropriate and helpful to your dog. Your dog will not experience pain in physical therapy, but will get great relief and have fun in the process! Watch your dog pulling on the leash to get in the door! Dogs know what helps them. We can trust in their innate wisdom. Even the wildest, craziest dogs have knowledge of how to heal, given the opportunity. Please call with questions or for more information!
